As we look forward to our next Knowledge Exchange Meeting next Thursday (February 25th), we’re delighted to hear of more and more developments in offshore wind, which is the chosen topic of discussion for the meeting.

Martin Langham of Green Investment Bank will speak to us about the offshore projects they are currently financing and considering, while Jack Farnham, joining us from RES, will discuss what they have learnt from offshore developments. Our final speaker, Mike McLean from Swift TG Energy, who are currently developing Vertical Axis Wind Turbines, will talk about the project.

On a more general note, recent and impressive developments in the industry include DONG Energy’s investment into the construction of the Hornsea Project One, the UK’s record-breaking offshore wind farm. Hornsea, situated off the Yorkshire coast, will upon completion, cover 407 square kilometres, making it the largest offshore wind farm in the world.

In their commitment to green energy, DONG Energy understand the importance of offshore wind and the significance of constructing such a large wind farm to support the energy supply chain and move towards a low-carbon economy.

Another major investment in offshore wind was confirmed just this week, in Scotland. A privately funded investment will support plans for development in the Port of Dundee, which will provide massive improvements to the quayside and allow for the installation of offshore wind turbines. The plans will only further strengthen the quayside, which is already considered to be one of Scotland’s ideal locations for renewable manufacturing.

We look forward to hearing from each of our speakers next Thursday and discussing even more recent and significant developments in offshore wind.
