Energy and Climate Change Secretary Amber Rudd recently delivered a speech on the government’s long-awaited energy policy ‘Reset’, setting out a new vision to ensure energy security becomes the “number one priority”. In a wide-ranging address, she announced the government would seek to phase out all unabated coal-fired power plants by 2025 and confirmed a further three auctions of clean energy support contracts would take place during this parliament. There was further good news for the nascent demand management sector, where Rudd said the government would look at plans to expand the use of smart grid technologies, and the clean tech industry, she was keen to mobilise increased R&D funding in this area.
